After the termination of the Benin-Niger railway line construction Agreement signed on 22 July 2022 in Niamey, it is the turn of the employees of Bénirail to begin their dark phase. The company terminated the contract of 394 railway workers, collectively dismissed. Already, the Council of Ministers of 3 August 2022, in its final communiqué, set the tone: « Due to the major difficulties that have hindered the implementation of these Contracts and Agreements, Benin and Niger have undertaken discussions with the partner, the Bolloré group, with a view to concluding a conventional termination protocol, » they said. However, the protocol that terminates the Benin-Niger rail project provided in particular for the implementation, by the Bolloré group, of a social plan for the benefit of 395 employees in Benin, on the basis of the last year of gross salary and in compliance with the texts in force. This means that the dismissed staff could benefit from support. The dismissed railway workers, however, have extended the list of the unemployed in the country, after the workers of the Agence Bénin Presse (ABP), Infosec, Sonacop, Conseil National des Chargeurs du Bénin (CNCB) and others.
