The Center for Arbitration, Mediation and Conciliation (CAMeC) of the Benin Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI Benin) started a training session on arbitration on Tuesday, March 29, 2022 for the benefit of newly recruited Arbitrators,. The training takes place at the headquarters of the Consular Chamber in Cotonou.
Building the capacity of participants in the resolution of commercial disputes is the purpose of this CAMeC training for newly recruited Arbitrators. During the launch of the training, the Permanent Secretary of the CAMeC, William Sourou explains the following: « The training is part of the CAMeC’s missions in accordance with the statutes of the CCI Benin. (….) The mediators play an important role in the fulfilment of this mission. To fulfil this mission, the CAMeC relies on three actors: the Permanent Secretariat, the Technical Committee and above all the mediator arbitrators ».
For the Acting Secretary General of the CCI Benin, Ms. Sidonie Houndonougbo, and representative of the President of the CCI Benin, « This training program for new approved arbitrators responds to the will of the CCI Benin to put its resources, its skills and its energy at the service of the development of member companies. MARL/MARC are among the tools available to them for this purpose. And its deployment requires well-equipped professionals. The ambition of the CCI Benin is to participate, through the CAMeC, in the achievement of the OHADA’s vision which is to make arbitration an instrument for the development of judicial and legal security in Benin. The economic life of our time has become inconceivable without arbitration, Professor René DAVID said decades ago, but these words perfectly reflect today’s realities: arbitration is the usual and privileged way of settling disputes in the sphere of international trade. » Indeed, at the end of this training provided by Dr. Achille Ngwanza and Dr. Karel Dogue, the participants will be sufficiently equipped to make irreproachable arbitral awards that will have the same value as a judgment rendered by the courts and the courts of appeal. The said training conducted at the CCI Benin Conference Room ended on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.
